Did I Mention…

I know I mentioned that my husband’s poor-excuse-for-a-mother, worthless ex-wife left the kids alone for about 10 hours when she went out drinking before the kids came to Chicago from Utah. But did I mention the specifics I found out about this pathetic display of parenting?

Well, as my step-daughter was confiding in me I discovered that my husband’s ex-wife and her new husband were supposed to only go out for two hours. My step-daughter is a good girl. If she is asked to babysit for two or three hours she isn’t going to mind. I may not agree with the fact that her mother decides to go out drinking to bars and leaves her children home alone (isn’t that legally considered neglect?), but I can’t do anything about it and it really doesn’t matter now that the kids are living with us. What pisses me off is that my step-daughter was left alone to babysit on the last night that she was spending with her best friend before coming to Chicago and that the “I’ll be gone for two hours” bullshit turned into being gone for ten hours.

What was this woman’s excuse? What reason did she give my step-daughter for coming home at three in the morning instead of 8 or 9 at night? Well, turns out that one of this woman’s “friends” drank so much she got alcohol poisoning and had to go to the hospital. Nice. Really nice. Now, not only do I not condone abandoning your kids while you go drinking to the bars, I definitely do not condone you not coming home till three in the morning because you are too worried about your drinking buddy who was too stupid to limit their alcohol intake to realize your children needed you at home.

The fact that this woman thinks it is perfectly acceptable to turn two hours into ten because her and her friends are too immature and irresponsible to properly care for children really pisses me off. The fact that my step-daughter was left alone with an 8-year-old boy and a toddler till three in the morning because of a drinking binge pisses me off more. Does anyone else think this is complete bullshit? Does anyone else think this woman should not be allowed anywhere near her children until she is able to get her shit together? Or am I just an old-fashioned, over-protective mother hen? I’d love to hear your opinions.
