Tackling More Challenges

In light of everything that has been going on I thought it would be a good idea to have a conversation with the social worker at my step-son’s school. My step-son can’t get in for his psychiatric exam till February so I wanted some guidance in the meantime. The social worker had some good advice and insights for me. He validated my concerns about how the household environment in Utah was affecting my step-son and that I had a right to be concerned about some of his behaviors and issues.

Don’t get me wrong. My step-son is not a bad child. He is a very loving little boy, but he has some serious emotional issues that need to be addressed and corrected. In a perfect world his mother would have had him taken care of when these issues first arose. We do not live in a perfect world and his issues have been ignored until now.

From what I have been told, my step-son’s issues are going to be more of a challenge to correct because whatever condition he may have has gone untreated. I am not going to lie. I am pissed as all hell at his mother. His life is now harder because she could care less about facing life and cares more about drinking her problems away. I honestly don’t care what she does. It’s her life. But when her actions begin to affect innocent children, that’s another story.

In any event, it has been decided that the children will not be going to Utah to visit their mother over Spring Break. They might go stay over summer break if she can get some of her shit together, but we will only do that if my step-son’s psychiatrist and therapist think that it won’t do more emotional damage to him. She is very, very lucky that we are not dragging social services into her life to get her other son out of her care. Of course she will never see it that way. She is too self-centered and immature to see anything other than her own personal wants and needs.
