A Visit to Urgent Care

Well, as many of you know, my step-kids came to live with us on December 26th. Since pretty much the day of my step-daughter’s arrival she has been complaining of stomach pains, being cold, headaches, trouble breathing, etc. My husband pointed out to me that every day something seems to bother her and that he thinks she’s doing it for attention. I wanted to make sure nothing was seriously wrong so I have been sitting in the ER with her for about three hours now (thank God for my iPhone) and it appears that she may indeed have a case of hypochondria.

When we got to the ER she told triage that her symptoms have only been going on for a week. She’s been complaining for a month. Then she told the nurse doing her IV that it’s been going on for a couple of months. She told triage that she doesn’t have any pain today. She posted on Facebook from her phone that she has pain and breathing issues. Obviously the child needs attention, and somehow we have to teach her that she doesn’t need to do this for attention in our home. She is obviously also suffering effects from the way her mom treated her. It breaks my heart.

Anyway, I will be setting up a psych exam for her, just like I had to do for my step-son. My biological son sent me a text while I was here asking if she’s ok. I told him she seems fine and he mentioned he thinks she does it for attention too. Hopefully we can help her with whatever issues she may be experiencing.
