The Truth about Online Surveys

A lot of the people who know me know that I make really good money from home. Only a portion of them know that a good portion of that money comes from doing odd jobs for my family. They assume that it is my consulting business that pays all the bills. We’ll let them keep believing that.

Anyway, a lot of these people assume that I know everything there is to know about making money online and I frequently get asked questions about a variety of online money-making opportunities (no, you did not win the Nigerian lottery). The truth is, I do know quite a bit about the legit and not so legit online money-making opportunities out there. Which is why, when I was asked today for the hundredth time about online surveys, I decided to let my blog readers in on a few online survey secrets.

First things first — you are NOT going to get rich taking online surveys for money. I don’t care what those ads tell you. There is no way in hell you are going to make $50 to $100 per hour with online surveys. You’ll be lucky if you pull in minimum wage. With that being said, online surveys are definitely a good way to make some extra cash or earn gift certificates in your spare time. You just have to know where to go and what to avoid.

First, do not EVER pay to join a survey opportunity. If someone is asking you for money, it’s a scam. There are plenty of survey opportunities out there and they don’t cost a dime. Second, make sure you know the terms of the survey company you decide to sign up with. Some online surveys pay out in points, which you can redeem for gift cards or discounts or even merchandise. Others pay cold-hard cash.

If you’re looking for legitimate online survey opportunities, these are the sites I know about and recommend. Again, you aren’t going to make boatloads of money but you can pass some time if you’re bored and earn some rainy day money in the process. These are the sites I recommend to my friends, and let’s face it, my blog readers know more about me than some of my friends do so I’m happy to share the information with you too:

MyPoints.com
With this one you earn points that can be redeemed for gift cards and merchandise.

GreenfieldOnline.com
Haven’t visited this one in a while, but I believe they still pay cash for surveys or points that can be redeemed for cash.

HarrisPollOnline.com
This one also pays cash for surveys.

InboxDollars.com
I actually use this one and I wanted to link to it, but for some reason WordPress is being a pain in the ass about it. This one pays cash for surveys and for signing up for offers. They also pay you cash for each email you read from them and you can earn cash for redeeming coupons you print from their site. If you want a referral link from me, go ahead and shoot me a comment or an email and I’ll send it to you.

So, will online surveys make you rich? No, but you can earn some extra spending money. If you know of any other paid survey sites, share em with the rest of the blog readers. I know a lot of people are looking for ways to earn extra money from home.
