The Step-Daughter Drama I Mentioned Before

Okay, I figured I’d post sooner rather than later about the step-daughter drama I eluded to in the Meet Me on Monday post. Those of you who have been following me for a while know I love my step-daughter dearly. You also know that I thought she was a very stable, well-rounded girl considering her upbringing. Unfortunately, some serious issues have come to light.

First, let me start out by saying that my husband’s family has a history of mental illness. He has BPD, as you all know. His mother has schizophrenia. My step-son shows characteristics of BPD. Now it appears that my step-daughter has some serious emotional issues as well.

I have parental monitoring software on the kids’ computers. Not because I’m a stalker, but I am an overprotective parent and if my children are going to be on the Web I’m sure as hell going to know what they are doing on there. I don’t make a habit of reading and spying on everything they do, but I do get emailed when questionable content arises. Well, some of my step-daughter’s Facebook IM messages triggered the alerts that I am emailed due to the content contained in them.

When I was first reading these messages I was confused. She was talking with a friend about how this guy she knows was drinking in front of her and abusing her physically and emotionally. I was really pissed off when I read it. My first reaction was, “Who the hell is this guy and what the fuck does he think he’s doing? I’m going to kill him!” Well, it gets worse.

The guy doesn’t exist. My step-daughter tried telling me he is a “spirit guide” and that she is followed by about ten to twenty of these “guides” and that this one isn’t very nice to her. First off, I’m protestant. If something that isn’t human is actually following you around and doing shit to you, in my opinion, it’s a demon. But, as a sane human being, I’m more apt to think this is a mental illness issue rather than a physical manifestation of a demon. So here’s the deal…

I asked my step-daughter if she could actually “see” and “hear” these beings physically or if this was more of a “feeling” thing that may be in her head. Nope, she sees these things in front of her and hears them just as if they were human beings in the same room. Which kinda freaked me out, because that’s just not normal. There’s a difference between talking to people when you know they aren’t there and actually thinking someone is in a room with you when no one actually is.

My friends, another can of worms has just popped open and I don’t know if I’m ready to deal with this one. I’ll update you all as things unfold. She needs help. All of you who read my blog know that I’ll make sure she gets it. But I can’t help but think, “What’s next? What more can possibly come up with this family?”
